The key takeaways from this chapter are:

Senior executives are often major roadblocks to innovation because they:

• Are focused on short-term gains.
• Missed out on innovation education
• Are risk-averse.
• Are control freaks.
• Lack the X-vision.
• Don’t understand why a networking culture is important.
• Are too far away from the action when it comes to innovation.

You can overcome these problems by:

• Challenging and stretching the mindset of top executives.
• Helping them understand and buy into the creation of a tight link between innovation strategy and the overall corporate strategy.
• Understanding what really matters to top executives.
• Leveraging the power of corporate communications.
• Gaining some small wins and not starting too many innovation initiatives at once.

I hope you will enjoy this chapter. Please feel free to retweet and spread the word…

  1. Great read, nice takeaway points at the end of the chapter. Plan to send a link to some of my network group. Look forward to reading the book.

  2. Interesting chapter. I noticed that while reading it, I constantly replaced all management titles with "politicians".

That's an even harder nut to crack and a huge market opportunity for the most daring and determined of us all.
